Blog Post #6- The Future

As an avid reader when I find the time to read for leisure outside of class, I found many of the readings for week 11 extremely interesting…to me. The two I enjoyed most were Your E-Book is Reading You and The Future of the Future of Books. Written by Lincoln Michel, The Future of the Future of Books gives a general analysis of where books are heading with the advancement of new technology. Michel explains the ways in which new technology is often viewed as a replacement to traditional reading but how this ideal is not always factual.

Blog Post #6- Successful Entrepreneurship

In this week’s blog post, I wanted to first focus my attention on the article, “Lessons from a Failed Social Entrepreneur”. Highlighting…the failed attempt of the social impact website, Zoosa, the author gives a personal account of how he came to start Zoosa, the steps and thought process he had when it was time to shut it down and some personal advice for entrepreneurs who may be in a position to start a business. I chose to highlight this article because it is the most relative to much of what he have been learning throughout the semester and ties into one of our guest speakers a few weeks ago, who I will mention later.

Choosing this idea as my final assignment was easy, as it follows some of the core topics we have been taught to focus on in class; scratching my own itch, and focusing on where purpose equals power.

Blog Post #4- Readings & Guest Reflections

Deregulation is defined as the reduction or elimination of government power in a particular industry, usually enacted to create more…competition within the industry. This is incredibly factual and true when reviewing the article about Clear Channel in the LA Times. Author Jeff Leeds goes into great detail about the advancements of Clear Channel Communications after Congress lifted the law which regulated radio station ownership limits. Deregulation gave founder Lowry Mays the ability to purchase more than 10% of radio stations nationwide and essentially become a billionaire overnight.
